St John’s is a welcoming Church of England parish church set in the centre of Shildon, the cradle of the railways.
Parish churches belong to their community. So St John’s is your church regardless of whether you come on a Sunday or not. People come through the door for all sorts of different reasons. Some are curious; some are looking for space; some want to join with our activities, have fun, meet new people. Some just want to pray; some want to belong; some want to find out about faith. But the reason doesn’t matter, the welcome is there for all.
We are very proud of our church project Shildon Alive, which has been serving the local community for over a decade, providing a community hub, a community shop and takeaway, a food bank, an advocacy service, a credit union, young volunteers, meals on wheels, school projects and much more. In 2024, Shildon Alive was awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. Please see the Shildon Alive website or Facebook page for further information and support.
